Whether white-water rafting down a roaring river - or - fighting a grand-daddy fish at the end of a hook, you can have both within an easy drive. Enjoy every water activity imaginable in Calaveras and surrounding areas including: boating, skiing, wind surfing, swimming, sailing, wave runners or just great fishing.

High-water enthusiasts should book early in the season, which generally runs from April to October. Each river and specific rafting trip has its own personality and rating dictated by the size or difficulty of the rapids or whitewater. Class I is flat water; Class II, light rapids; Class III, moderate whitewater with some difficulty; Class IV, advanced whitewater; Class V, expert level; Class VI is generally unraftable.

First filled in 1983, New Melones Lake has 12,500 surface acres when full and more than 100 miles of scenic shoreline to explore. The lake is framed by topography ranging from the rugged Stanislaus River Canyon cliffs to oak-studded golden Sierra foothills. Fishermen number New Melones Lake among their favorites for its excellent trout, bass, crappie and catfish action. Something's always biting. Hundreds of wildlife species including deer, fox, coyote, beaver, otter, and raccoon can be seen along New Melones Lake's shore. Up above, eagles, heron, hawks, cormorant and grebe are common sights.

Full service marina on the third largest reservoir in California, slip rentals, luxury houseboats, fishing and patio boats, gas pumpouts, convenience store with camping supplies, ice and groceries.

Sea kayak rentals, lessons, tours, and sales. Taught on beautiful Lake Alpine, this is their most popular class. You'll learn sweep strokes, braces, draws, and more of how to use your body in a kayak. The highlight of the class is learning a wet exit and how to re-enter your kayak. You'll also learn how to use safety equipment and we'll demonstrate solo rescues. This half day course will allow you to rent closed deck boats on your own and may satisfy the requirements of other outfitters for rentals.

Bass Fishing Trip for 2
Book a guided bass fishing trip for two. This would be a great package for father and son, and includes use of equipment, instruction and lunch for a cost of $250 per day (a 6-hour day). A professional bass fisherman will lead the trip and the instruction, and all take place on a beautiful Skeeter bass boat. Trips can be taken on New Melones Reservoir or Lake Tulloch.
